Configuring GCE for Installations

This document describes how to configure GCE in preparation for installing Apcera using Terraform.

Create GCE project

If you do not have Google Cloud Platform project create one as follows:

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Platform console: https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/projects.

  2. Click the Products & services icon at the top left of the console.

  3. Select IAM & Admin from the list of products and services.

  4. Select All projects and then click CREATE PROJECT.

  5. Enter a project name, such as apcera-test-gce and click CREATE.

  6. At the top of the console, select the project you created and note the project ID.

  7. Select the Products & services icon at the top left of the console.

  8. Select Billing and enable billing by selecting CREATE BILLING ACCOUNT.

    You will need to enable billing for your project. If necessary, create a new billing account.

Download GCE project key

Authenticating with Google Cloud services requires a GCE project key which can be downloaded in a JSON file directly from the Google Cloud Platform Console.

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Platform console: https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/projects.

  2. Select the Products & services icon at the top left of the console.

  3. Select IAM & Admin and then select Service accounts in the left navigation pane.

  4. Select (check) the service account and click the vertical elipses to the far right of the service account name.

  5. Click Create Key from the pop-up menu that appears.

  6. Select the JSON option and click Create.

    A JSON file is created by GCE and downloaded to your computer.

    Save this file with the name "gce_auth_info.json"

    You will use the contents of the JSON file to configure your cluster.

    The JSON file contains the project key you will need to install Apcera.
